Bite2Go provides ready-to-eat weekend food for local students facing food insecurity, helping ensure children have something to eat between Friday’s final bell and their return to school on Monday. Anna Nepomuceno, Director of Public Policy for Northwest Harvest, shared data showing that hunger remains a serious challenge across Washington and Grant County. She discussed the pressures facing local families, farmers, and food programs, while emphasizing Northwest Harvest’s belief that food is a human right. Jose Garza of the Othello Food Bank and Washington Food Coalition District #3 Rep encouraging community members to share their firsthand experiences with elected officials and participate in Hunger Action Day at the Washington State Capitol on February 8. He emphasized that local voices are essential in advocating for families facing food insecurity. Together, their message was clear: emergency food assistance remains critical, but long-term policy solutions are needed so every person and family can access nutritious food with dignity. Throughout the duration of the gathering, complimentary food boxes will be distributed thanks to Cascadia Produce to ensure that every family present has access to nourishing meals. This exciting event promises an afternoon filled with cultural enrichment, health awareness, and community spirit. This year, Othello Bite2Go is proud to partner with the Othello Rotary Club at the Othello Fair to raise awareness and support for local children facing weekend hunger. For many students, school meals are their most reliable source of food during the week. Bite2Go helps close the weekend food gap by providing kid-friendly meals for elementary students to take home each Friday. Our Need It costs just $180 for the full school year to provide weekend food for one child. We currently have sponsorship openings at four Othello elementary schools: Lutacaga Elementary: 17 students need sponsors $3,060 for the school year Wahitis Elementary: 17 students need sponsors $3,060 for the school year Hiawatha Elementary School: 17 students need sponsors $3,060 for the school year Scootney Springs Elementary: 17 students need sponsors $3,060 for the school year That is 68 local children who need support, with a total need of $12,240 to sponsor them for the entire school year. How You Can Help A gift of any amount makes a difference: $180 sponsors one child for the entire school year $3,060 sponsors all 17 students at one school Every child deserves to return to school on Monday ready to learn not worried about whether there will be food at home over the weekend.
